Piperidobenzimidazole cpds. of formula (I) and their pharmaceutically acceptable acid addn. salts are prepared. In (I), R1 is phenyl opt. substd. by 1-3 of R3, 2-furanyl, 2-thiophenyl, 4-, 3- or 2-pyridinyl or C1-6 alkyl pyridinyl; R2 is H or C1-6 alkyl; R3 is methoxy, nitro, fluoro, acetylamide, methylthioethoxy, amino, imidazole or 2-methyl- 1H-imidazole. (I) are useful as cardiotonic agents.
