[Also in Division D1] Tubularly knited leg garments, such as stockings, tights, leotards and panti-hose, are knited wholly or in the main of stretch yarns in an S and Z yarn alternating sequence so that it is capable of fitting a wide range of sizes. To increase the stretch properties of the finished product the garment is subjected to a relaxing treatment but the usual boarding treatment is omitted. The heel portion is suitably reinforced by splicing and a certain amount of a shaping is achieved by the usual stiffening. The toe is a circularly knitted reinforced portion on the end of the tube which is sewn and cut to shape. Alternatively the toe may be closed on the machine. Courses of non-stretch yarn or flat yarn may be interspersed with the courses of stretch yarn in desired parts of the garment. |
