The rotary piston pump or engine has a rotor (10) with a numbr of outwardly pivotable sealing elements (11) in sealing contact with the cylindrical inner surface of a stator, and levers on the pivots of the elements which control the angular positions as in 2626449. The lever arms are held in contact with an internal cam track by centrifugal force and the axis of symmetry of the track is offset relative to the axis of rotation of the rotor. The cam and lever mechanism may be arranged in a chamber provided on the outside of an end cover of the unit.
