The electronic lock has an electromechanical reader with a flat compartment for inserting a flat key. The lock has a large number of combinations with robust reading mechanism. The various keys can be modified by the user or produced from a single blank. The lock has several additional mechanical scanners which can be reset to a rest position. In this position the reading fingers of the scanner project into the key compartment and these scanners act in conjunction with electrical contact. The scanners are held on a common shaft, several of the contacts forming part of a circuit printed on a plate.
