1309587 Loading articles on to shelves; conveyers MENK APPARATEBAU GmbH and G ESSER 29 July 1970 [29 July 1969] 35084/70 Headings B8A and B8E Articles 2, Fig. 1, are fed to shelves 1 down a roller conveyer 5 and are transferred to the conveyer 5 from a conveyer 3 by a chain conveyer 11 supported by pulleys 12. Articles 2 are also removed from the shelving to a conveyer 4 via a rollerway 6 by driven wheels 7 which are supported on pivoting links 18, operated by linkage 19, so that the wheels 17 may be raised through slots in the shelves to propel the articles on to the rollerway 6. A plurality of rollerways 5, 6 are provided, one for each column of shelves, Fig. 2 (not shown). At the transfer point 8 the articles 2, Fig. 3, run on to pivoted rollerways 9a-9e the front ends of which are progressively lowered so that the articles are separately arrested by members 10a, 10b &c. As described the rollerways 9 are lowered magnetically, but hydraulic or pneumatic operation could be used. When all the rollerways 9 are full they are lowered bodily to transfer the articles to the chain conveyers 11. Fig. 6 shows the shelving. The loading and unloading conveyers and associated transfer mechanism may be separately movable to load and unload shelves at different locations. The chain conveyers 11 and members 10 may be raised to effect transfer of the articles from the rollerways 9 instead of tilting and lowering the rollerways as previously described. To prevent collisions the articles are withdrawn from the shelves at different speeds. |
