The barrage for sea-defence and reclamation work, e.g. sand accretion, is of a triangular cross-section. Barrage units have a horizontal base (4), a face (2) inclined at between 25 and 40 deg. and a face (3) approximating to the vertical. The inclined face (2) is orientated towards the open sea and the abrupt face forms a barrier to the ebb-current. Barrage units (1) may be of the caisson type, may be in solid block form, or may be constructed of sheet material with an open land-face (3). The inclined face (2) may subtend 30 deg. with the base (4) and may also be a perforated plate. The units (1) may be placed at intervals between filler units which develop the desired longitudinal barrier-profile, and may be anchored to the sea-bed (5).
