TRANSFER PRINTING OF CELLULOSE UNION CLOTH

Transfer printing of cellulose-contg. fabrics is effected by treating the fabric with (a) a water soluble acid ester or ether contg. COOH gps. and (b) opt. a polyol having >=2 opt. substd. alcoholic OH gps.; (2) drying the fabric and (3) transfer printing the fabric with a heat transferrable dye or optical brightener. Process gives improved results in the transfer printing of cellulose-contg fabrics such as cotton and mixed cellulosic-polyester blends, compared with prior art processes. The treatment is odourless and does not affect the handle of the fabrics. The dyed goods have good resistance to washing, light and rubbing.
