<p>1509318 Surgical needle ETHICON Inc 24 Sept 1975 [25 Sept 1974] 39108/75 Heading D1G A needle-suture combination comprises a needle 11 having a sharp end and a blunt end and having a recess 14 in the blunt end; and a suture 12 made of cellulose or a cellulose ester, a polyolefin, a vinyl polymer, an acrylic polymer, a lactide polymer, a glycolide polymer or a copolymer of lactide and glycolide, said suture having one end 13 positioned in said recess, and being retained therein by compression of portion 17 of the needle, and having a portion A adjacent the needle weakened by exposure to beta or gamma radiation. The cumulative dosage of gamma radiation on portion A is from 5 to 200 megarads. The suture may be a monofilament or a multifilament suture and may comprise cotton, linen, viscose, rayon, cellulose acetate, polypropylene, polyethylene, polyvinyl alcohol, polyvinyl acetate, polyvinylidene chloride or polyacrylonitrile.</p> |
