The electrode 25 is made up of a plurality of sections, which may be arranged in a line along the drum surface or staggered so that they cannot all read a single darkline. The lowest potential read by the sections is used to control the bias, on the assumption that it represents a white or background area. Alternatively a card of known properties may be exposed with the original to be copied, so that its image falls outside the area of the image to be developed and actuates the auxiliary electrode. The developing electrode 24 may control the application of either liquid or dry developer.</p> |
