1509693 Sampling devices LEEDS & NORTHRUP CO 20 July 1976 [27 Aug 1975] 30126/76 Heading B8N A molten metal immersion sampler comprises a ceramic body 10, e.g. cordierite, impervious to gas defining a sample receiving chamber 20 which is open at one end and closed at the other end by a ceramic plug 14 which is pervious to gas and impervious to molten metal to permit venting of the chamber. The bodies are cemented together and have substantially the same thermal co-efficient of expansion. The body 10 may define a second chamber 21 for a pin sample for combustion analysis. A strip 22 of aluminium is used to deoxidize the molten metal. A heat destructible cap 18 closes the sampler and a tube of heat resistant material surrounds the sampler. A thermo-couple 28 is held by a ring 11 at the end of the sampler.
