Equipment for winding wire or strand shaped goods on spools includes an arrangement for automatically changing the spools and for removing them from a magazine. The empty spools are positioned on inclined guide rails on an extension of an axis of a wound spool rotating on a pair of rollers. The automatic spool change takes place through a positioned axial displacement and a program controlled delay time of full spools and empty spools. The spools are displaced by gravity or by a suitable equipment. All spool flanges have specially formed plates which causes the wire guided by starting grooves to run from the full spool over on the empty spool. The run over wire is clamped in a groove in such a way that it breaks when the full spool falls off.
