L-Arginine orotate - detoxicant and memory stimulator, also useful in skin care preparations and animal husbandry

L-Arginine orotate of formula (I) is new. H2N-(C:NH).NH(CH2)3.CH(NH2).CO2H. It has a detoxicating effect, e.g. increasing rate of breakdown of alcohol. It stimulates memory and is active in doses of 100-500 mg. It aids body mobility without the sensory stimulation which amphetamine exhibits. Its use in skin cse preparations and animal husbandry (e.g. as food additives) are claimed. It is prepd. by reacting the acids in a solvent, e.g. H2O. In an example, 17.j g arginine were dissolved in 60 ml H2O, 15.6 g orotic acid were added in portions at 50-60 degrees C with stirring. On cooling crystals pptd. wh ich after filtering, drying and recrystallising gave 31g. prod. m.pt. 264-266 degrees.
