Fuel compsn. consist of a high-boiling oil and an additive contg. cpds. of Si, Ca, Mn, Al, Fe and/or Mg, and a high-ash tar derived from thermal processing of solid fuels e.g. oil shale. The additive mixt. is made by introducing salts, oxides chlor-oxides or hydroxides of the above elements into a vapour-gas mixt. from solid fuel processing, before condensn. with deposition of tar. The vapour gas mixt. is first cooled to 300 degrees C min. and its speed adjusted to 3m/s min. The inorganic cpds. preheated to 110-250 degrees C are then injected into the gas stream. Used as heating oils in boiler systems, gas turbines, steam-gas plants, heating ovens etc. Use is made of waste tars and problems of disposal eliminated. No mechanical comminution of the mineral constituents and dispersal in liquid carrier is required, saving energy and other costs.
