DISCHARGE VALVES FOR EXHAUST MAINS OF CRUDE GAS GENERATORS

An exhaust valve for venting highly contaminated gas from an enclosure includes a pivotally mounted valve flap which opens inwardly toward the source of contaminated gas. The exhaust valve also includes a tubular member suitably shaped to pass through the valve seat; the tubular member being normally positioned at the discharge side of the valve. When the valve flap is opened the tubular member is inserted through the valve seat to define a chamber which receives the valve flap whereby the valve flap and the valve seat are protected from direct exposure to the contaminated gas.
