1,232,480. Aerials; frequency-changers. TEXAS INSTRUMENTS Inc. 24 July, 1968 [14 Dec., 1967], No. 35310/68. Headings H3T and H4A. A radio communication system employs a transmitter module for each radiating element of an array and a receiver module for each receiving element of an array; each transmitter module includes phase shifting and power amplification means and each receiver module includes filter, pre-amplifier and phase shift means; and the outputs of the receiver modules are combined. The embodiments are satellite repeaters, booms causing the satellite to maintain an orientation such that the transmitting and receiving aerial arrays always point towards the earth, requisite power being derived from solar cells. The repeater may be of the frequency translation or demodulation-re-modulation kind. Each aerial element may be a crossed dipole or an orthogonal slot or an openended waveguide. Beam steering by digital phase shifting may be employed. In one embodiment common transmitting and receiving aerial elements are utilized, Fig. 10 (not shown). Frequency-changers, Fig. 6.-A mixer in a receiver may be a thin-film circuit with a ceramic substrate 50; Schottky barrier diodes 47, 48 are mounted as chips on either side of a #/4 stub 49. |
