The invention comprises hydroxyboroxineamine salts of the formula <FORM:1106227/C3/1> where Q is a complex amine e.g. that produced by reacting (1) an alkenylsuccinic anhydride or acid in which the alkenyl group has a molecular weight of 700-2500, (2) an amine or polyalkylene polyamine and (3) an aldehyde, ketone, acid, urea or thiourea.ALSO:Antirust protection and anticorrosion protection is provided to lubricating oil and gasoline compositions by compounds of the formula <FORM:1106227/C4-C5/1> where Q is a complex amine, e.g. that produced by reacting (1) an alkenylsuccinic anhydride or acid in which the alkenyl group has a molecular weight of 700-2500, (2) an amine or polyalkylene polyamine and (3) an aldehyde, ketone, acid, urea or thiourea. The lubricating oil may be mineral or synthetic, e.g. alkylene and alkylene oxide polymers, dicarboxylic esters, alkylated benzenes, silicate esters and silicones. The oil may also contain metal dithiophosphates.ALSO:The invention comprises compounds of the formula <FORM:1106227/C2/1> <FORM:1106227/C2/2> where Y1 is an alkyl, cycloalkyl or aralkyl group, Y2 and Y3 are H or Y1, Y2, Y3 and th N atom form a bicycloaza- or bicylodiaza-alkane group or a pyridine or picoline group, Y4, Y5 and Y6 are H or an alkyl, cycloalkyl or aralkyl group, at least one being other than H, and when Y4 is H then Y5, Y6 and the N atom form a 5- or 6-membered ring which may contain S or O and may contain additional substituents, or Y4, Y5, Y6 and the N atom form a bicycloaza- or bicyclodiaza-alkane group. The compounds are prepared by heating boric acid and an amine at 25-100 DEG C. The reaction may be carried out in a reaction medium such as an aromatic hydrocarbon, or an excess of the amine may serve as a reaction medium. |
