<p>1430215 Sulphur foams CHEVRON RESEARCH CO 14 Aug 1973 [17 Aug 1972 25 July 1973] 39530/73 Heading C1A A sulphur foam is produced by heating at a temperature of from 100-150‹ C. in a first zone a sulphur formulation containing at least 50% by weight of sulphur and a minor amount of a gas-producing component, said formulation being heated until it is in a liquid state, passing said liquefied formulation at said temperature to a second zone, mixing in said second zone with a foaming agent which on combination. with said gas-producing component releases gas,. passing the gas-containing mixture from the second zone and allowing it to cool to form a cellular construction material. The gas producing component may be an inorganic sulphide especially phosphorus sulphide or an organic acid. The foaming agent may be a proton donor such as steam, or a polyisocyanate or a polyisothiocyanate. Apparatus in which the process may be carred out is also described.</p> |
