1501222 Selective allylation of o-alkoxyphenols RHONE-POULENC INDUSTRIES 15 Aug 1975 [16 Aug 1974] 35309/77 Divided out of 1501221 Addition to 1402974 Heading C2C A process for preparing an ortho-alkoxy-paraallylic phenol comprises allylating an orthoalkoxy-para-unsubstituted phenol with an allylie halide, allylic sulphonate or allylic sulphate in the presence of an aqueous solution of an alkali metal hydroxide or alkaline earth metal hydroxide at a temperature greate than 70‹C but not exceeding 150‹ C., acidifying the reaction mixture and recovering the allylated reaction product. In the examples guaiacol is reacted with allyl chloride under the reaction conditions of the present process to produce p-eugenol.
