<p>The reaction is carried out in the presence of an alkaline earth hydroxide, in a medium of a lower aliphatic alcohol and opt. water, or in a lower aliphatic ketone and water. The reaction mass obtained is treated with HCl to separate the 1,8-naphthaldehyde acid from the alkaline earth hydroxide and the product is then washed. The product may be converted to naphthalic acid and its anhydride which are used in the prodn. of resins, dyestuffs and plasticizers.</p> |
