Method for mfg. a plastic fastener with a base plate and attached pin with a wide head, for hanging up keys etc. or for forming part of a press stud fastener, comprises heat-shaping a piece of thermoplastic material with a tool comprising a mandrel for forming the pin. At the free end of the mandrel is a detachable head shaper which extends beyond the peripheral surface of the free end of the mandrel. The head shaper is enclosed in the head during heat shaping.The tool pref. comprises a plate of non-ferromagnetic material on one side of which is at least one mandrel which is magnetic at its free end. The head shaper is pref. spherical, ferromagnetic and dimensionally stable up to deformation temp. of thermoplastic material.
