The writing or drawing stencil comprises a sheet with openings in the shape of letters or symbols, and with supporting edges holding it clear of the writing surface when in use and enabling it to be slid along a ruler etc. The edges (12) are of plastic, metallised at least on the external surfaces. This can be effected by galvanisation, hot-stamping, rotogravure, silk-screen printing or any usual plastic metallisation process. The sheet can be injection-moulded in one piece with the edges, the latter being metallised on the outside surfaces (14, 15, 16) and also the end ones (17).
