<p>Coating compsns. comprise (a) an oil-in-water emulsion contg. a soln. of a hydrolysed poly-1,2-epoxy resin, a non-ionic surfactant and a hardener, or (b) a soln. contg a hydrolysed poly-1,2-epoxy resin and a hardener in alkoxyethanol (I) or in a mixt. of (I) and alcohols, ketones, carbitols or acetates of these, and opt. with liq. aromatic hydrocarbon solvents. The epoxy component is e.g. a soln. of a hydrolysed giglycidyl ether of bisphenol and the hardener is e.g. a melamine-formaldehyde or urea-formaldehyde resin. Suitable emulsifiers for making the emulsions (a) are block copolymers of ethylene oxide and propylene oxide. The coatings can be made at high solids content (60-90 %) and are esp. useful in the prodn. of coatings for metal containers.</p> |
