[Also in Division C5] A germicidal detergent composition consisting essentially of a germicidal quaternary ammonium compound having a phenol coefficient of at least 50 with respect to S aurens and S typhosa and having at least one alkyl or arene substituent containing from 8-22 carbon atoms joined to the quaternary nitrogen atom and a non-ionic detergent in which the major portion of the molecule is made up of block polymers C 2 to C 4 alkylene oxides, with alkylene oxide blocks containing C 3 to C 4 alkylene oxides and 0-45% by weight ethylene oxide and exhibiting a hydrophobic function, and at least one other alkylene oxide block consisting of ethylene oxide and 0-45% by weight of C 3 to C 4 alkylene oxide and exhibiting a hydrophilic function, and the ratio of nonionic detergent to quaternary ammonium compound in said composition being at least 2:1. The above compositions may also employ as the non-ionic detergent component the above non- ionic detergent complexed with iodine in order to provide additional germicidal actvity. Other ingredients such as builders, pH regulating additives and/or organic sequestering agents may also be added. |
