A blower for an oil burner has a blower housing (1) with a radial air-blower wheel (2). This is provided with an outer blade ring (3) for guiding air from an inlet opening (7) in the wall of the housing. A guide plate (10) is arranged, in order to guide air back into the blower wheel from the pressure side of the blower. This guide plate (10) is essentially plane and extends only as far as the blower wheel. As a result, on starting of the oil burner, a sufficiently high pressure is achieved for flame backflashes to be prevented. <IMAGE>
