Liquid containing nutrient for plants is released from a reservoir (8) by a valve to maintain a film of liquid (9) at the bottom of a porous pot (7). The liquid ascends by capillary action and passes outwardly to feed and moisten compost (11) in an annular well in which plants are footed. The outer walls (13, 14) are treated to be non porous. The inner wall of the wall is slightly lower than the outer wall (12) allow drainage of overflow liquid when watering.
