In the parent platent, the asymmetric hydrocarboxylation of olefinically unsatd. cpd. is effected in the presence of Pd catalysts and if optically active organic cpds. contg. >=1 atom of main Gp. 5 or 6 element. Suitable alcohols are 1-2C aliphatic alcohols, e.g. MeOH, EtOH, iso-ProOH etc. also phenol and glycol.In this addn. the yield of optically active cpds. is increased when the reaction is effected in the presence of a further organic solvent, e.g. aliphatic hydrocarbons such as hexane, heptane, cyclohexane, aromatic hydrocarbons such as benzene, toluene, ethers such as dioxane, tetrahydrofurane, ketones such as acetone, cyclohexanone, and nitriles such as acetonitrile.
