Irreversible coupling between driving and driven shafts - employs cam centred in casing by rollers and locking ramps

The irreversible control in which a driven part cannot apply drive to the driving part is used in various applications such as in machine tools or in flow control valves. A case (1) is attached (2) through its base (3) to a support (4). The case has a periphery (5) with a cylindrical interior in order to centralise a cam (7) prevented from rotating on a driven shaft (10) by a key (8). The cam is maintained in contact with the periphery by rollers and locking ramps. The rollers are pressed in one direction by springs (15) acting against plates (16). A driven shaft (18) is attached to he cam by a pin (23) located in hole (22) with play greater than that in rollers and ramp.
