The button has a rounded centre piece (1) of for example natural or artificial hartshorn which on its upper facing side has an insert (5) inlaid in a central depression (4) and connected to an eyelet (7) which projects through a hole (8) to the back wherein the insert (5) and the eyelet (7) comprise an integral cast or stamped member which is secured for a force fit in the recess (4) and/or hole (8). The fitment can be produced by making the insert (5) in the form of a disc wherein its lateral defining edges (9) sit securely in the central depression (4). A neck member (6) can be disposed between the insert (5) and eyelet (5) so as to then fit into the hole (8) in the rounded centre-piece (1).
