<p>The action of locking the seat belt closes a pair of contacts connected in the vehicle ignition circuit. The engine cannot therefore be started until the seat-belt is locked. The seat-belt latch, when inserted into the lock, depresses the button which closes the spring loaded contacts, completing the circuit between the ignition lock and the ignition coil. In a typical vehicle, the switches in the two seat-belt locks are connected in series so that the engine cannot be started unless both belts are locked.</p> |
