The drum includes a peripheral groove which extends axially of the drum as it extends around the drum, and a stop is provided adjacent the drum surface to prevent longitudinal advance of a wire received in the groove until it has shifted laterally far enough to avoid the stop, the wire being moved laterally by the drum groove walls as the drum is rotated. The base of the groove in the area of wire lateral displacement is stationary relative to the drum. An adjustable spring loaded idler roller 210 keeps the wires in the groove. The stack of wires 6 are formed in a hopper comprising blocks 44, 46 forming a funnel into a channel 48, the sides of the channel 48 incorporating power driven endless belts 52, 54 for urging the wires downwardly. |
