Ink jet printer with improved gas bubble gathering system has an ink container (3) connected to the ink supply system (2, 4, 5) via a stopper (6) which effects a connection between the ink supply pipe (10) from the refill cartridge (5) and the ink outlet pipe (12) leading to the printing head (1). The supply and outlet pipes (10, 12) are arranged separately from one another through the stopper into the container (3) which serves as an intermediary container holding an amount of ink which is sufficient for longer holding times of the head. Gas bubbles separate out from the ink in a flow region between the openings of the apertures (10, 12) in the lower container region.
