The clamping element is for the shaft of a dental root channel instrument, and comprises several jaws (10) abutting against the shaft, against which they are pressed by elastic clamping means pref. a ring disposed in an annular groove (18) in the jaws. The jaws are relatively pivotable about at least one pivot axis (24) perpendicular to the shaft axis, for opening and closing, and joined to actuating levers (14) to perform opening and closing. Pref. there are two jaws of which the levers form between them a passage (16) for the shaft and have tilt edges (24) or surfaces defining a pivot axis and adjoining each other at two diametrically opposed points.
