<p>The die is used e.g. to forge a shaft end with a shoulder. To obtain a cylindrical shaft which does not require further machining, the die is made from two halves. The outside of the two halves when placed together is conical. The two die halves fit in a conical bore of a die mount (4). During forging, the two halves will move into the bore and closer together. After the forging, the two halves are ejected from the die mount by a spring (6). The two die halves are spread from the forged shaft end by springs (7).</p> |
