1509089 Automatic control of vibration and force WESTINGHOUSE ELECTRIC CORP 19 May 1975 [31 May 1974] 21162/75 Heading G3R A programmed reference signal for the feedrate of a machine tool is combined with signals representing vibration and lateral force on the tool respectively, derived from a single transducer mounted in association with the tool. In the embodiment a Piezo-electric crystal 26 is mounted in a rotating milling tool holder, also Fig. 1 (not shown) and connected through slip rings and amplifier 62 to high and low pass filters 64, 69 which derive the vibrational and force components respectively as positive analogue voltages which are compared at 84, 112 with negative voltages -Vo, -Fo representing the permissable limits. When these limits are exceeded the resulting positive voltages are inverted and added algebraically to a programmed feed voltage to produce an actual feed signal which thus represents a desired feed modified to prevent vibration and bending forces exceeding the set limits. |
