<p>1508860 Combination lock WALTER KIDDE & CO INC 29 Sept 1975 [5 Nov 1974] 39758/75 Heading E2A A combination, e.g. for a suitcase, comprises a longitudinally movable puller C having dials F co - rotatable with sleeves G arranged in longitudinally spaced slots 60 in the puller. Means are provided on the puller to engage the sleeves when the dials are off combination and to prevent movement of the puller to an unlatching position. When the dials are on combination the means no longer engage the sleeves and the puller and the dials may be moved over them. Preferably the dials F have teeth 63 which mesh with teeth 64 on the sleeves G to allow corotation of dials and sleeves. Teeth 64 engage, off combination, lugs 68 depending from the puller, on combination the lugs 68 are aligned with the "missing tooth" portion 66 (Fig. 5) and the puller and dials F may move to the unlatching position where hooks 80, 80' of hasp B no longer engage lugs 78 attached to the puller. To change the combination, shift lever K attached to sleeve - bearing shaft E can in the open position, be pushed to the left against spring J so that the narrow teeth 63 of dials F fall align with the gaps between teeth 64 freeing the dials from the sleeves and so allowing the dials to be set to a new combination.</p> |
