摘要
1509071 Packaging apparatus; conveyers R A JONES & CO Inc 20 March 1975 [20 March 1974] 11708/75 Headings B8C and B8A Packaging apparatus comprises an index wheel 36, Fig. 2 rotatable about a horizontal axis and having a plurality of suction heads 62 spaced round its periphery, the suction heads being arranged to hold individual packages 29, a conveyer 116 arranged to pass below and at right angles to the rotary path of the wheel 36, and means for releasing the suction at each head at a predetermined angular position of the wheel to cause the head to release a package held thereby on to the conveyer. As described paper strip coated with a plastics or other adhesive on one or both sides is fed from a roll 14, Fig. 1, via a printing device 16 to a plough 17 which folds the strip to V- section before it is sealed transversely by heated lands 20a on a sealer 20 to form a series of opentopped pockets. Alternatively a pair of strips is used in which case a bottom sealer 32 is also employed. The pockets are filled with granular or liquid material at a station 26 and then closed by a top-sealer 27 to form a string of pouches 29, which are fed via a take-up roller 91, Fig. 2, to the index wheel 36 against which they are held by a strip 94. Cutting bars 60 on the wheel 36 engage transverse seals 30 between adjacent pouches 29, and a suction head 62 is provided between each pair of bars. The index wheel co-operates with a cutting wheel 37 so that when a pouch reaches position 29a its leading seal is cut through and it is held on the wheel by suction applied through the head 62. At position 29b the trailing seal of the pouch is cut and it is carried by the suction head to a position over the conveyers 116, on to which it is ejected by supplying pressurized air to the head 62. The ducting to the heads 62 is such as to cause alternate pouches to be deposited in different positions on the conveyers 116 so as to form two edgewise overlapping rows of pouches 101, 102. The speed of advance of the conveyers is also related to the rotary speed of the index wheel 36 so that the pouches in each row lie in a shingled array, Fig. 5. From conveyers 116 the pouches pass to a slower conveyer 117 and the leading edge of each pouch is engaged by a stop 153 so that its position on the conveyer is reversed and the direction of shingling is also reversed. The pouches then pass on to a shoot 35 from which they are pushed into a box 167 by an operator. The box may then be placed on a vibrating table 181, Fig. 1, before it is closed. The printing means 16 may mark every nth pouch, e.g. 180, Fig. 5, so that the number of pouches to be inserted in a box is easily seen.
