1508490 Press filter OSAKA PACKING SEIZOSHO KK 22 Dec 1975 [27 Dec 1974 21 Feb 1975] 52402/75 Heading BID [Also in Division B5] An apparatus for filtering and pressing a slurry of calcium silicate crystals to provide a moulded article comprises a base plate 2 having drain passages in its upper surface; an endless conveyer belt 9 of net material, the upper run of which lies on the base plate; a lower mould member 10 of frame-like form, reciprocal, e.g. by pistons 12, in the vertical direction into and out of contact with the belt 9; an upper pressing mould member 13 arranged to reciprocate vertically, e.g. by pneumatic press 14, into and out of the lower mould member 10 to press the cake therein, the upper mould member 13 being provided with drain passages for filtrate in its lower surface; means 23 for holding down the lower mould member and movable upwardly and downwardly independantly of the upper mould member; and means 52 for supplying slurry to the lower mould member. In use, a cake is first formed inside the lower mould member on the belt using the pressing action of the upper mould and then the lower and upper mould members are together raised a little distance above the belt before release of the cake from the lower mould member by raising the lower member holding means 23 to allow that member to rise relative to the stationary upper mould member, the released moulded cake falling onto the belt. The cake release may be aided by supply of compressed air through the upper mould member drain passages. The upper mould member may be washed between filtering operations by water spray 26 reciprocal both forwardly and backwardly and sideways. The belt may be cleaned by water spray 25'. Means 49 may be provided to supply a constant volume of slurry to each filtering/pressing operation. A removable wire net may be placed over the lower surface of the upper mould member and its drain passages may be connected to a source of vacuum. |
