1508844 Blood filter device W SARSTEDT [trading as WALTER SARSTEDT KUNSTOFF-SPRITZ-GUSSWERK] 27 March 1975 [30 March 1974 20 Nov 1974] 12841/75 Heading B1D A blood filter comprises a piston 4 in a tube 1, wherein the piston has a cylindrical recess into which an insert (e.g. a disc 7) is tightly fitted, at least one of the two contacting faces of the piston and insert being roughened so that filtering channels are formed between the piston and the insert. The piston carries at the top a tubular connecting pipe 5 with a constricted neck 13 which communicates with the filtering channels. When the piston is thrust downwardly through supernatant plasma on serum 2 in the tube, the filtered liquid flows up the connecting pipe (which may be transparent) and collects above the piston. The connecting pipe may be extended by a supplementary riser tube (8, Fig. 6 not shown). The disc may have a stem which acts as a valve (Fig. 15 not shown). Various devices for operating the piston manually, holding the separated liquid, and closing the tubes after filtration are detailed.
