The sliding steel plated fire door has a frame with insulating slab in-fill and steel plate liners. Constituent liner plates are joined by edge folding or stapling and are fixed by screws through the joints into laths of insulating material. The system obviates thermal bridging. The laths locate in the door core and are the sole material anchoring the plate screws. Metal fittings e.g. 'U' sections may be introduced between the plate liner and the anchorage lath. The fittings are traversed by the plate screws and serve to locate the lath relative to the screw holes.
