The saddle trailer has a load platform projecting over the whole length of the trailer and supported by a stepped chassis. The relatively short front saddle extends over pivot point on the traction vehicle. The load carrying platform (15) is rotated about its rear end horizontal hinge (18) so that its front end is aligned with the saddle rear edge. Lifting jacks (25) are provided for this purpose between chassis and the platform underside. An additional rope actuator can be used for gradual lifting of the platform which is locked in final position.
