Cold storage of cooked foods in a cooling device in which the foods are cooled quickly to temperatures below 10 DEG C immediately after completion of cooking and are then cooled further more slowly to a temperature below this level and are maintained at this temperature. In addition to a compressor, condensor and fans, the cooling device comprises a temperature-control device having a time-switching mechanism (ZW) which has two switching contacts (b1, b1<'>) for the selective shock-cooling or freezing in one and the same container, the first contact (b1) of which switching contacts is connected in parallel with the first contact (b3) of an operating mode changeover switch (shock cooling or freezing) and its second contact is connected via a thermal switch (T) to the first contact (b3) of the changeover switch. Connected in series with the circuit formed by the first contact (b1) of the time-switching mechanism (ZW), the changeover switch and the thermal switch (T) are a pressure-sensitive switch (P) and a contactor (c1) for the compressor motor (m1) and the fan motors (m2, m3, m4). The contactor (c1) is switched on during shock cooling in accordance with the setting of the time-switching mechanism (ZW), and an indicator lamp (h1) illuminates during freezing, in accordance with the setting of the time-switching mechanism (ZW), for a predetermined time. <IMAGE>
