In tyre factories and warehouses stocking a large variety of tyre sizes it is necessary to know how many tyres of different sizes, materials and type numbers have been made or are in stock. This is often done manually, taking a long time and being subject to human error. The apparatus performs this process automatically. a source of irradiation lights up the tyre markings and the tyre can be automatically moved to align the markings with the optical system. a camera tube receives the image via two prisms, mirrors and a lens system. this information is transferred to a memory and registration apparatus which prepares the required records.
