The water softener for the dish washer consists of a salt container from which brine is forced into an ion exchanger container through a connecting pipe. The overflow outlet of this pipe is positioned inside the filler pipe which has a lid on top. The brine discharged is thereby forced to flow over the highest point in the container. The lid has a cap-type protuberance into which the overflow outlet reaches. The parts of the lid surrounding the overflow outlet serves as attachments for a float showing the concentration of brine. The float is in the form of a hollow cylinder enclosing the connecting duct with inlet. The cap is transparent.
