The mixt. contains by wt., >=40% plasticising oil and =60% polymer. The oil may be rape oil or a mineral oil. Polymer may be (a) natural or synthetic rubber or (b) a polyolefin, e.g. polyethylene, polyisobutylene, etc. The corrosion-protective and/or sealing compsns. prepd. with the above pre-mixt. contain 100 to 40% bitumen, 0-35% plasticising oils and 0-25% polymer. Compsns. are used for coating electrical cables and as sealants, etc., in building industry, e.g. for coating pipes. Mixts. contg. polymers (a) improve creep-strength and flexibility of bitumen and compsns. Addn. of polymers (b) improves strengths at low temps. without impairing creep strength. Pre-mixts. are anhydrous; contain polymer in finely divided form and can be mixed homogeneously into bitumen.
