<p>An ultrasonic welding device for sealing plastic tube-ends comprises a serrated ultrasonic generator-die cooperating with a serrated anvil. The serrations are so shaped that a plastic tube lying in one of the grooves is closed and sealed into a V-shape by the opposite serration entering that groove; this V-shape lies within the tube periphery. A guide at a short distance from the anvil has grooves aligned with the grooves of the anvil. A flexible bearer holds the plastic tubes in the grooves of the guide during welding, while the guide also acts as a buffer to absorb the ultrasonic vibrations and prevent them passing along the tubes. The method is esp. applicable to sealing the ends of plastic tubes contg. semen for artificial insemination, and for other veterinary and medicinal purposes.</p> |
