Biochemical waste is decomposed anaerobically by (a) adding alkali to the biochemical waste-contg. aq. soln. pref. to set pH >=8, and heating, pref. to 30-160 degrees C, to decompose the biochemical waste, and then (b) effecting anaerobic decompsn. Process is partic. useful for decomposing waste contg. proteins and fats, e.g. activated sludge, garbage, sewage, waste waters from alcohol distn. processes and conc. waste waters from food industry. Pre-treatment lowers fermentation decompsn. time by >40%. Compsn. of gas formed is similar. Quantity of alkali added in pre-treatment step can cover alkali quantity added to liquefying tank for neutralising fatty acids, without addn. of fresh alkali.
|
