The boring bar has a longitudinal end slot for holding a cutter. The jaws formed are clamped by a diametral screw against the cutting tool. The tool is held purely by clamping force and without any holding profiles. The end of the cutting tool has a central projecting lug. The lug projects into a central seat (17) between the clamping jaws (3, 4). The clamping jaws engage with contact faces at the projection. The clamping screw (30) is arranged so that its axis passes through the boring bar axis yet it is at an acute angle to the mid plane of the flat cutting tool. This screw does not pass through the cutting tool.
