1282169 Making baffle units NEPTUNE MICROFLOC Inc 21 Oct 1969 [18 Nov 1968] 51591/69 Heading B1D [Also in Divisions B5 and C1] Apparatus for manufacturing a device for treating liquids comprises at least one rigid jig for holding in a predetermined parallel spaced relationship a row of elongate baffle members 28, e.g. of acrylonitrile/butadiene/styrene copolymer, which each comprises a planar wall portion and flange portions 32 which extend from opposed edges of the wall portion, support means 14 for releasably supporting a pair of side wall members 30, e.g. of vinyl chloride/vinyl acetate copolymer, on opposite sides of the or each jig and in contact with a face of respective flange portions, the other face of the respective flange portions being in contact with the jig or one of the jigs and sealing means for providing a seal between the side wall members and the baffle members adjacent each flange portion of the baffle members. Each jig may comprise a plurality of jig members 12 made for example, from aluminium. Liquid solvent, e.g. acetone, used to seal side wall sheets 30 to baffle members 28 is supplied by a pair of solvent sprayers 36 attached to opposite sides of each jig member by clamp 38 bolted thereto, each of the sprayers being provided with an elongated tubular nozzle 40 whose outlet is positioned in the space between the side wall sheets 30 and opposite ends of a small flange portion 42 of jig member 12 space bumps 44 being provided on the outer surface of small flange portion 42 of each jig member to prevent bonding thereto of the baffle member by means of the solvent guide wall members 30 may be produced by feeding rolls of sheet material on to support plates 14 pivotably mounted on opposite sides of the jig and cutting them to the desired length. In an alternative arrangement air pressure is used to hold side wall members 30 in contact with baffle members 28. Instead of using solvent, electrical heating or ultrasonic heating means may be provided to effect sealing. Cardboard or treated paper may be used in place of plastics sheeting for the baffle members and side wall member, the sprayers 36 being replaced by glue applying apparatus, e.g. roller applicators. The apparatus may be such that rows of elongate baffle members are simultaneously supported in respective jigs which are disposed in adjacent rows, the baffle members supported in each jig being inclined in a direction opposed to the inclination of the baffle members in an adjacent jig. |
