An articulated nuclear reactor control rod comprises pivoted links housing neutron absorbing material and >=1 further pivoted end link for collecting the gas produced during the neutron absorption. Each pivot includes a hollow flexible tube that provides fluid communication between adjacent links and allows gas flow to the gas collecting links. The gas collecting link(s) can be positioned outside the core of the reactor so more neutron absorbing material can be accommodated in the core, thereby increasing the core service life.
