An offshore platform consists of three legs which are hinged at one end to a hollow foundation block and at the other end to the underside of the deck. Each leg is fitted below the water line with a buoyancy tank. An articulated structure joins the legs near their top and ensure that two legs must remain parallel to each other and the third must remain equidistant from them. The system combines the advantages of a hinged platform (loads transferred by legs to sea floor with a min. of bending moments) with those of conventional platforms (deck remains always in the horizontal position). It reduces the assembly times and cost because the complete platform can be floated on site.
|
